In Jesus' Name Charities is a collective compassionate and spiritual response to poverty in our community in which people may do small acts of kindness and sharing to comfort and help their neighbors in need. It operates an ongoing emergency food response, and verifies needs and coordinates a network of volunteers and donors to meet those needs. IJN was founded in 1981 when the Hoboken Clergy Coalition formed to respond to the various needs of the poor of Hoboken and is tax exempt as a church organization hosted by Our Lady of Grace Church. Help Stock Our Food Pantry and
Clothing Closet: Our
Food Pantry feeds
hundreds of Hoboken’s poor – it takes the caring and generosity of the whole
community to keep it stocked and available to fulfill the needs of the
community. We also maintain a Clothing Closet
of gently used items for those in need.
If you would like to donate, you can drop off items during our open
hours from the attached list. (needed
items list) Fulfill A Specific Need:
Our Anonymous Angels program
allows you to provide a one-time donation of a needed item for a verified
need to someone in the community of the poor in Hoboken. (download a form) Or you can share items you
no longer need, or make a periodic or regular donation
of food or clothing, or other
needed supplies. Monetary donations
are also accepted. Find out more about Hidden Hunger in
Hoboken: They
are your neighbors. The specter of hunger follows them through their
daily lives. Read more about
this hidden problem, and ways that you can help. Become a Volunteer: It takes several hundred concerned
and compassionate individuals to keep In Jesus' Name Charities ready, stocked
and available to those in need. If you would like to become involved,
different levels of volunteer involvement are possible: ·
Core Volunteer Staff - Volunteers are
needed to help distribute and organize resources. Individuals
with weekday availability are especially needed. Weekend volunteers can
sign up through their host church. ·
Collection Facilitators - Individuals are
needed to regularly mediate collections at their church, organization, or
work site. You could also choose to spearhead a one-time collection. ·
Transportation - IJN maintains a
list of persons willing to be contacted to move donations between resource
banks, or help in the delivery of food packages to homebound individuals. ·
Clerical Help - Computer graphic
preparation of certain mailings and appeals, forms, and thank you notes
designed. In lieu of time, $25 stipends to pay needy high-schoolers to help
for 5 hours. ·
Celebrate School Success - You can be matched
to sponsor a child's improved report card with a $25 gift certificate
incentive to Toys "R" Us or GameStop ·
Literacy Volunteer - Participate in
our Literacy events and other gatherings and parties, to benefit poor
children in the community. ·
Benefactors - Fulfill specific
crisis needs that fall beyond the means of the resource banks. |
